Production and Distribution video
Today we each filmed each other in groups of two about production and distribution, and who I would like to distribute my film opening. Before hand we researched the major distribution companies that suited our film genre, and the specific type of film we wanted to make.

Final group film synopsis
In my group we have decided that our synopsis will be about a couple come back from a holiday. They spend countless amount of money on souvenirs , new clothes etc. Money that isn't theirs to spend. The people who the money belong to comes looking for them. The owner is a mafia , so as you know things wont end well. While the woman is oblivious to the fact that she thought that the money belonged to him , he ends up putting both himself and her in danger.
On the way home from their holiday , they come across two black figures who suddenly knocks out the man leaving him on the floor bleeding to death and take away the girlfriend leaving him helpless. The attackers make countless amount of death threats and use the woman as bait to make the boyfriend pay up. They will stop at no cost to get what they want.

Film Synopsis idea
My idea for the film synopsis is that there would be two main characters who the film is centred around their lives ; male ( Sam ) and female ( Lilly ) who are a couple. They are coming back from a holiday abroad. On the way back they run into a young gentleman ( Mark ) who looked very friendly. The young man starts to converse with them asking personal questions and discover that they all live in the same neighbourhood. As time goes on he becomes closer and closer to them - going to their house , meeting their friends and family etc. Strange things begin to occur since that they day they have came met this man at the airport. The couple begin to catch on to what the man's intentions are & slowly starts to distance themselves from him.
Lilly starts to get flash backs of all the strange things that he'd do or say every time he'd come to their house/get together. They knew deep down that he was a dodgy person but didn't really take no notice of it as they thought that that was just him as a person ; his personality. Every time they'd see Mark , they would try to avoid him as much as possible. Mark was no fool and knew what was going on. He vowed to take revenge for humiliating him infront of everyone.
Analysis 3
What I liked about this film sequence is a vital technical code that they used. Which is the use of different sound techniques ; diegetic , non-diegetic and synchronous sound.
They build up tension and suspense for the audience to want to go and view the film.
What went well is the story that unfolded and explained to the audience what it was all about. Also the use of different camera angles and shots all create tension and draws in the attention
of the audience leaving them wanting more.
Analysis 2
What I liked about it is how they used different sound techniques. The voice over which isn't usually used in film sequences showed originality. I also like the way they introduced the main character(s) and gave us an idea of what it would be about.
What went well is the editing , which is also a technical code. They seemed to have used a variety of different techniques which consists of
sound , filtering , camera angles etc.
Even better if they could have made it clearer on what genre it is because it is quite vague and unclear. They could have done this by using the codes and conventions of their particular chosen genre.
Analysis 1
What I liked about the piece of short film was how they used symbolic codes. The red that
would get you immediately thinking about what it denotes and connotes. It tells us that there
will be danger in the film as it is only showing a small part of the film and tells us what genre it is ; as it is a sequence.
What went well was that they kept to the 180 degree rule and didn't break it. Also how they Incorporated
the sounds/music and used the different sound technique to make it look real ; verisimilitude.
I think that it would be even better if they used more editing techniques instead of using the same old one that jumps from scene to scene.
By using more techniques it would show of their skills and examiners how good they can edit.

180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule : In media when film making you have to follow the basic guideline when filming a character and another character or an object within the scene. An imaginary line which you can't see is called the axis which connects the characters. It is basically to ensure that both characters stay on the same side of the camera for every shot. If the camera passes over the line then it is called crossing line or jumping the line.

Preliminary Task
In this video it shows our preliminary task that we were given to be completed by us as part of our coursework. In the preliminary task we were asked to film a short film of a character opening the door and another character sitting down and having a conversation. We were also asked to include the following in our film ; match on action , shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule.
Our narrative for the task was a girl ( Enid ) was going for a job interview but she had the wrong attitude and wasn't prepared at all for it. She enters the interview room and greets the interviewer in an informal way. As she sits down , letting the interviewer ask her some general questions about why she wanted the job. It seemed like she only wanted the job for the money and wouldn't really be dedicated to it. Enid then faced getting rejected and looked very upset by it.
I think the things that went well were that we used a variety of camera shots and angles. We included a mid shot to show the two people in the scene because the 180 degree rule was to show the two people having a conversation from one side without breaking the rule and filming from the other side. The different camera shots to show our knowledge and understanding of what would make a successful filming task.
What would be even better is the editing. We could've added more transitions and included more effects in our filming , to make it more realistic and run smoother. Also we could've adjusted the lighting in the first scene where Enid was walking up the stairs.

Catch Me If You Can - Directed by Steven Spielberg.
I chose this particular title sequence because I think it is very interesting. I think this because of the different types of codes and conventions they have used in the sequence which tells us what type of genre it is and possibly what the film may be about.
The technical code is the camera shots. In the sequence there is always a camera shot of a man that looks superior to all of them. This tells us that in the film the main protagonist is likely to be a male and have power compared to everyone else in the film as in the sequence it also shows women who he looks down on.
The verbal code in this is the title. It is made to fit in with the title name as everything all looks a bit far fetched. It creates a story in the audience's minds and that would want to make them watch more of the film as they'd want to find out how the film will go. Another code which is used in this is the symbolic code. An example of this in the sequence is the colours. The bright colours at the beginning and dark ones at the end may connote to us that at the beginning it may start of as good , then as we go further into the film it could get worse and worse. The dark colours connote death , anger , pain , passion etc.
In addition this film sequence has an effect on the audience because it uses the right codes to create suspension and get the audience wanting more.

Introduction to the brief
Today we were introduced to our main task of the year. Which is to make the titles and opening film of a new fiction film that lasts for a maximum of two minutes.
Being introduced to that , I feel that it will be an interesting and engaging task that will enable me to work with the technologies that I haven't used before and be able to edit more in depth. I am happy and excited to start it , but also a little bit scared as this our main task and want to do the best that i can.

Trailer Se7en
There are codes and conventions which we look at in films to tell us what type of genre it is and possibly what it is about.
Codes are what you might individually analyse when looking at a text or a video. There are three types of codes and conventions ; techincal
symbolic and verbal. Convetions are something that they all share within that genre.
There are the three types of codes which are shown in the trailer. The technical code is all to do with the way a text is technically constructed.
An example of this in the video is the editing techniques and lighting. There are different types of shots which put together are fast paced shots.
This type of code is used when Bradd Pitt and Samuel L Jackson go on a search to find this criminal. The faced paced shot creates tension
and drama of what the film may be about , but also indicates to us that the characters are scared and vulnerable , fearing for the
We know this because the close up camera shot connotes to us how chaotic the events were.It also shows fear and anger. In addition , the lighting in the camera shot
is a very dark background which immediately tells us what type of genre the film is , as black connotes death , danger and mystery.
The second type of code is verbal. That is everything to do with language - either written or spoken. An example of this is the way the title is written. We know
this because of how the title and most of the words are written.
It may denote that maybe 7 people will die. Its almost like a mystery. You're not aware of the events that occur. The title denotes that the genre is a horror.
As the way the title is written , the impact of the title and the way all the words are written connotes to the readers that
a series of bad events will occur in the movie.
The third codes which is used to analyse films. Which is symbollic. This is where we analyse things like the costume , colours etc
A symbollic code in this video is the colours in the trailer overall. It denotes to us that there's fear and anger as i have previously mentioned.
We know this because of the specific chosen colours that they have chosen to be in the trailer. It connotes to us how the film is structured and gives us a clue
of how the film will be. Another symbollic code is the character's actions. This denotes how they react to things and how they are.
It connotes to us more of how theyre feeling. Theyre actions reflect on how theyre feeling and how they express themselves throughout every scene.
One convention of the trailer which is a horror/thriller genre as theyre similar is the use of diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. Diegetic sound is sounds that the characters
in the scene can hear and non- diegetic is sounds that the characters cannot hear. An example of diegetic sound in the traielr was the screaming and screeching eerie sounds.
These are all the sounds you'd expect in a horror movie. The use of diegetic sound is used to create pace , tension and in a way tells us how the characters feel and
what they're experiencing also to make it realistic ; verismilitude.
Another convention in a typical horror film is that there is always a close ups of faces. This is also shown in the trailer of the woman who is kidnapped.
This connotes fear and also to show how the character is feeling to create suspension and a high level of tension. The woman in the trailer was dressed very little and
was wearing dark colours. She could be seen as the damsel in distress that needs saving , which is the stereotypical perception of woman in horror films.
